Our Community

Carson City/
Valley

Weather you're retiring or just exploring a fresh start in a new place, there is opportunity here for everyone! Minden and Gardnerville are located on the South side of the valley and have some beautiful communities throughout. Heading North from there, pass through the historic town of Genoa on your way to the State Capital, Carson City. The 1800's buildings that line the historic district of the community are simply gorgeous and it's hard not to feel drawn to all there is to see and explore here with it's rich history. We have a plethora of dining and entertainment options all around town, beautiful art galleries and multiple museums that really embody the history of this special place. Community festivals/celebrations make up many of the weekends throughout the year and the sunsets over Carson Valley do not disappoint. 'Home Means Nevada' couldn't be a more fitting anthem for the state and you don't have so spend much time here to see why. On top of having everything you would ever need right here in town, The proximity to everything from Carson City and Carson Valley is one of the things that make it such a perfect place to call home. We're right up the road from just about everything you could ask for in regards to outdoor recreation, entertainment and a growing workforce landscape that is full of opportunity. Outside Magazine editors have labeled our area the 'Basecamp to all the Sierras has to offer' and they couldn't have said it better.

HeadingWest out of Carson Valley for the day!?

Head West on Highway 50 out of town and you find yourself in the mountains immediately. The landscape changes instantly and before you know it, you're driving through towering conifer forests. You'll start being rewarded with views of the magnificent Lake Tahoe in only about 25 minutes outside of Carson City. Most of the land West of Carson Valley is National forest and Wilderness areas Managed by the Lake Tahoe Basin and the Nevada Division of State Parks . There is an abundant number trout filled backcountry lakes that can be backpacked, horse ridden or mountain biked to. The spring time thrill seekers can enjoy a handful of class 3-4 whitewater rafting trips that are offered on the Truckee river which flows out of the north side of Lake Tahoe. As the summer progresses, these trips become a lot less scary if class 1-2 is more your speed! Heading this direction from Carson City, You can very easily snow ski and swim in the lake on the same day if you'd like and South Lake Tahoe is a treasure trove of things to do! If you find the town of South Lake to be too touristy, don't worry, All the Lake Communities around the Northern Part of the lake offer their own fun as well. Ski Mountains, Coffee shops, Boutiques, pubs and loads of recreation are all found as you meander around the North side of the Lake too!

HeadingEast
out of Carson Valley for the day!?

Heading East out of Carson City and the Valley you will be heading into wild horse country. BLM(Bureau of Land Management)property covers most of the landscape running east for as far as the eye can see! The possibilities are literally endless as this is land all available to you for public use(Motorsports, Hot Springs, Camping, Shooting, hunting and fishing). The historic town of Virginia City is only about 25 minutes outside of Carson City in this direction and you will be blown away by the nostalgia of this unique old wild west mining town that has been preserved beautifully. A family friendly environment with plenty to see and do. Shops, boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants and saloons line the entire main drag through town! It's one of my favorite places to go visit throughout all times of the year.

Specialty shopping and night life

If you are looking for more specialty shopping, big box stores, higher end dining options and more night life, Reno is only about a 25 minute drive from the north side of Carson City. Take highway 580 out of town you'll find yourself skirting along Washoe lake in Washoe Valley. You'll likely pass some wild horses and over the next set of hills is Reno! We're just far enough away to have all the perks of the 'biggest little city' right up the road while still keeping our small town vibe here in Carson Valley. Reno is home to the Larger events/festivals throughout the Summer. A series of BBQ Cook-offs, Motorcycle and Car Shows, Concerts and special performances fill up the Calendar for the whole summer. If you can't find something to do in Reno, that's your own Fault!

Coming from out of state?

For those of you coming from out of state, you are in for some amazing financial perks as well. First and foremost, the state of Nevada does not charge it's residents a state income tax. Top that off with having the 4th lowest property tax rates in the nation and that would be enough to get most people to want to move here. We are very lucky to be in a place where the Gaming and Mining industries generate enough revenue to keep a lot of these typical 'inconvenient' financial burdens to a minimum.

As far as business opportunities here in Nevada, The 'Chief Executives Annual Survey' ranked the state #6 in the Nation. This survey consists of over 600 CEO's nationwide who grade each state based on taxation/regulations, workforce and living environment. As far as EDAWN's (Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada) projections, Northern Nevada is the place to be setting your roots over years to come.
